Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 5, 2026
1. Overview
This policy covers two things: the BuildCaptain macOS app and this website (buildcaptain.dev). The short version: the app collects no data about you, and the website collects as little as it can get away with.
2. The BuildCaptain app
The app is designed so that your data never reaches us:
- No accounts, no telemetry, no analytics. The app contains no tracking of any kind and sends us nothing — no usage data, no crash reports, no identifiers.
- It talks only to your Jenkins server — the one you configure — over HTTPS. We operate no backend the app connects to.
- Your Jenkins API token is stored in the macOS Keychain on your Mac. It is sent exclusively to your configured Jenkins server and never to us.
- Settings and pinned pipelines are stored locally on your Mac. The app runs in the macOS App Sandbox.
- Purchases are processed entirely by Apple through the Mac App Store. We receive no payment or identity details.
- The optional CLI communicates only with the app on the same Mac. It is open source, so this claim can be verified.
3. This website
Information you provide
The website has no accounts or forms. If you email us (for support or licensing), we receive your email address and what you write, and we use it solely to answer you.
Information collected automatically
- Server logs — our hosting infrastructure records standard access logs (IP address, requested page, timestamp, user agent) for security and operations. Logs are retained briefly and not used to profile you.
- Analytics — we count page views with Pirsch, a privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics tool served through our own proxy. It stores nothing on your device, uses no cross-site identifiers, and gives us aggregate numbers only (pages, referrers, country, browser). We rely on legitimate interest for this; you can opt out at any time via "Cookie settings" in the footer.
- Cookies — the site sets no tracking cookies. The only cookies are functional: your language choice and, if you make one, your analytics opt-out.
4. Sharing
We do not sell or rent personal data. Website data is shared only with the hosting providers that run the site, bound by data processing agreements.
5. Your rights
Where the GDPR or similar laws apply, you have the right to access, correct, delete, and export personal data we hold about you, and to object to or restrict its processing. Since we hold almost nothing, the practical scope is usually your email correspondence and any consented cookies — but write to us and we will sort it out.
6. Children
Neither the app nor the website is directed at children under 16.
7. Changes
We will update this policy when the facts change and adjust the date above. Material changes will be highlighted on this page.
